Revenue and loyalty for vacation rentals in the age of Amazon and Google

Phocuswire Blog Published Custom Travel Solutions CEO Mike Putman’s Article

Our CEO Mike Putman recently wrote an article for Phocuswire, a comprehensive daily news companion for the  technology, distribution and the digital economy fields – the backbone of the travel, tourism and hospitality industry.

The article discusses how vacation rental companies can find a space within the larger travel ecosystem. For sharing economy platforms like Vacasa and Airbnb, there is an opportunity, challenge and advantage: a chance to rebrand niche vacation rental companies from warehouses of inventory into something more closely resembling hospitality brands.

The article was also published in Spanish language on Smart Travel News, a Madrid-based online publication focusing on tourism news and innovations in the industry. The Spanish version can be read here.

Excerpts from the article:

”Sharing economy platforms like Vacasa and Airbnb have helped vacation rental owners and management groups market their properties online, but relatively little has been heard (yet) from the Big Tech companies like Amazon and Google – both of whom have their ambitions set on travel – or from Big Brands like the travel management companies.”

”Big Tech has connected the world and laid the “digital tracks” we all take for granted and use to make money. There can be no discussion about the future of travel without the Big Tech companies and other Big Brands (hotels, TMCs) having a seat at the table.”
